DRM-LND: How Lusthaus Law Helped a Global Franchise Expand to the U.S.

by | Aug 17, 2026

Challenge

DRM-LND is a custom jewelry franchise founded in Sweden by Mikael Söderlindh, co-founder of Happy Socks and father of four children. From phone cases and bracelets to charms, hats and earrings, the DRM-LND franchise provides an immersive shopping experience and accessory brand that empowers consumers – and particularly young people – to creatively express themselves in physical and digital platforms.

DRM-LND has multiple locations in the EU, UK, and the Middle East. After successfully expanding into Mexico City, the franchisor set its sights on the U.S. A law colleague referred the brand to Lusthaus Law to help make the dream a reality.

Though the client had a recognizable brand and devoted audience, adapting the system to the U.S. market presented certain hurdles and required creative problem-solving.

Solution

From the outset, the disclosure documents used in the EU differs from what is required in the U.S. We worked with the client to adapt its documents to the required franchise disclosure document (“FDD”) format for the U.S. franchise market, one of the most highly regulated in the world.

For example, details about fees and investments needed to be presented differently for the U.S. market, which we clearly outlined in Item 5, 6 and 7

Ultimately, continuous communication proved fruitful. Honest and candid conversations over a period of weeks led to the completion of an FDD that was compatible with the U.S. framework.

Result

DRM-LND opened its American flagship at Westfield Century City, in Los Angeles, marking a major milestone for the company and brand that was born from a simple family playtime. DRM-LND continues to reach new heights, as the system is now uniquely positioned to explore further options for franchising.

Many franchise lawyers know how to identify items and details that might be missing, but experienced franchise counsel know how to translate business practices and explain them in ways that adhere to the 23-item FDD format in the U.S.

“We aren’t just opening a store; we are building a local hub for self-expression,” Söderlindh told Fashion Network in February 2026, upon the location’s opening. “DRM-LND is where the digital feed meets physical creativity.”
